I originally uploaded this post last week but unfortunately Blogger had all those technical difficulties and it was taken down and LOST! I'm now kicking myself that I don't keep a backup of my lengthier blog posts... It's definitely something i need to consider. If you blog let me know if you keep a backup and also if the blogger problems affected you, i was so upset that my post was lost!
So, originally I was drawn to Dolce & Gabbana Cosmetics because of the heartbreakingly beautiful Scarlett Johanssen and the amazing promo pictures. Don't they just scream old Hollywood and Marilyn Monroe?
When it comes it makeup I can be very gullable and jump on fads, it's just part of the unfortunate addiction... So if something alludes to giving me the look of Marilyn Monroe, my idol, *almost* regardless of the price point and previous reviews I just cannot resist and I must haul.
So haul I did.........................
D&G Cosmetics isn't currently available in Australia (I hear a little rumour it will be landing in David Jones sometime this summer) so I had to get a friend in the US to pick up these items on my behalf. I'll have a detailed list at the end of this post as to where you can pick these items up closet to you.
D&G The Lipstick - $30USD
#145 Baby Darling and #50 Nude
Swatches: Top #145 Baby Darling and Bottom #50 Nude
The scent of these lipsticks is just indescribable....... I cannot stomach the smell AT ALL!
Imagine the old lady type of smell in Estee Lauder lipsticks x 10000 mixed with burnt plastic, just terrible.
The formula is quite nice although a little drier then i would like, i just cannot ever bring myself to use these lipsticks because of the scent. $60bucks down the drain, I had to give both lipsticks away.
Such a shame because the colour's are so pretty with the nicest sheen, D&G need to fix up that sent FAST.
D&G The Gloss - $29.00USD
#78 Innnocence
Unfortunately I have the same issue with the gloss as I do with the lipstick, the smell is just awful.
Putting that aside $29 is way too much for this lipstick, it is a very pretty shade and non-sticky but nothing you couldn't find in a Drug Store for under $10.00.
D&G Sicilian Lace Powder Bronzer - $47.00USD
The printed overlay of gold Sicilian Lace is just beautiful but short lived, the above picture shows how its almost all gone just after one use. Needless to say with each use this Bronzer will become less concentrated with the golden shimmery powder and after about 6 uses it became completely matte. The Bronzer itself is slightly orange toned and muddy, apply with a light hand and blend well.
Although the packaging is beautiful and elegant and the product is more good then bad you are much better off investing in a Guerlain Bronzer for the same price. In many peoples opinions (especially make-up artists of the stars) Guerlain bronzer's are by far the best on the market and i have to agree.
D&G Smooth Eye Colour Duo - $36.00USD
#110 Stromboli
A smoky glittery black-tied esk black with a beautiful sheer champagne this duo is an easy way to get a sophisticated smokey eye without having to think so hard. The champagne colour glides on the lid beautifully and creates an iridescent shimmery glow, the black which appears much sparklier in the pan then when applied is a dream to play with and blends into the champagne like perfection.
D&G Smooth Eye Contour Quad - $59.00USD
#110 Nude
The texture of the shadows is very smooth and the colour's are amazing and nicely pigmented although definitely on the sheerer side. I love the buttery texture of all 4 shadows and the way they all blend together beautifully. When it comes to colour combo's in their Quad's D&G just get it right every time. This would really be my only recommendation from my D&G purchases.
Dolce & Gabbana Cosmetics is currently only sold in the following countries:
